I love fashion and have been designing clothing since I was a little girl, before I went to school. I would watch Persian singer’s 90s shows that would come out on DVDs once a year and imagine what they could be wearing for their next shows. I had so many ideas in mind that could dress them for the next 10 years! When I got a little older I started drawing my ideas on paper. I still have some of my hand sketches from many many years ago with the figures with crooked faces and a random number of crooked fingers on each hand, but their clothing aren’t actually too bad! A few years later, things were more organized…I even added dates to my notebooks and designs and included names and fabrics for them.
When I came to Canada, I applied for both Art and Engineering! I ended up going for Mechanical Engineering which is as far away from fashion as it can be, but I always knew that fashion design is what I wanted to do the most in my life! While working towards my engineering career, I always dreamt of a day that a famous designer (Tom Ford, Valentino, Marc Jacobs) would find me talented and want me to be their head designer! A little too dreamy for an ordinary engineering student, but that’s just how I felt.
Then one day, my sister told me to step up and work towards my goal, instead of dreaming about it! That was a wake up call as I realized Im not living in a fairytale and Marc Jacob isnt gonna be sitting next to me on my UBC bus and seeing my designs and falling in love with them! I really had to start my journey towards my true goal and the future I always imagined!
For the past few years I have been working on and off to get have my designs out in the open. It started from a huge clutter of thoughts and ideas and prototypes that didn’t go too well with occasional long breaks in between due to being swamped with 50-60 hr engineering work weeks and other things but is finally taking shape in terms of my plans and priorities.
I finally have a plan that I feel is solid! I have decided to go all in with a ready o wear line and another line for made to measure custom pieces. I will make wearable accessories arising from what inspires me and share sketches of my designs that can turn into one of a kind pieces for those who connect with them!
Here, I will share my journey with you and hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I would love to connect with you on a personal level and learn from you.
